“Jazz Chisholm says Royals were lucky to beat Yankees”

The Kansas City Royals stunned the New York Yankees with a four-run fourth inning in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. Kansas City won 4-2 and finished with one win in the series while moving back to Missouri. It’s now a best-of-three game with the Royals technically having home field advantage, but Yankees star Jazz Chisholm isn’t worried about the outcome.

Chisholm told reporters after Monday’s game that he believes the Yankees will win the Series; that the Royals were “lucky” to win and tie the second game.

“It still feels the same that we’re going to win (the series),” Chisolm said. “I don’t feel like anyone feels any different. We’re still going to go out and do our thing, we were just lucky.”

Unsurprisingly, that comment garnered widespread attention, attention that Chisolm enjoyed on Tuesday.

Jazz Chisholm defends comments about Yankees-Royals series

Chisholm may have been right when he said the Royals benefited from luck with the balls in play on both offense and defense. But that’s how baseball works. Sometimes the jumps go your way, sometimes they don’t. While New York has a clear, significant talent advantage in both the lineup and on the mound, postseason baseball games are practically coin tosses.

Every player on every postseason team believes they will win because they are extremely competitive professional athletes. If they expected anything else, they wouldn’t make it to Major League Baseball. But that doesn’t mean that the opposing team will be dismissed. All too often it comes back to bite you. Just look at Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, who after some excited celebrations early in Monday’s game was roasted on X before being ejected in the fourth.

The Yankees are still the favorites to win the series, but if they fail to do so, Jazz Chisholm will surely hear about it.
