Janelle Monáe debuts her ET Halloween costume on The Jennifer Hudson Show

The latest from Janelle Monáe’s growing legion of elite Halloween costumes will have you calling home and asking for help.

Monáe debuted another impeccably crafted (but no less disturbing) outfit on Wednesday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Showwhich she attended while dressed as ET, the alien from Steven Spielberg’s classic 1982 film ET the alien.

“I never thought I’d meet ET,” Hudson said as Monáe approached the set in full prosthetics, mimicking the character’s husky voice while whispering “Jennifer” several times to evoke a touch of nostalgia Tickle your Reese’s pieces or, alternatively, have them repeat “Ouch” to yourself as you try (unsuccessfully) to sleep tonight.

“Do you hear the voice? Yes, ET, it’s me. The finger is lighting up y’all, look!” Hudson exclaimed as Monáe’s left finger began to glow, similar to ET’s in the film. She repeated Hudson’s name again, which caused the host even more excitement. “ET knows my name! Thank you for coming to the happy place. I don’t know whether to say Janelle or ET?”

Monáe responded by repeating ET’s name before confirming, “ET is…Janelle Monáe!” as the audience applauded.

The 38-year-old also shared an elaborate photoshoot on her Instagram in which she also starred as her own version of Elliott, the 10-year-old boy (originally played by Henry Thomas) who befriends ET in the film.

“You finally came home. Welcome back ET. Thank you Google Maps,” Monáe wrote in the caption. “Their main characters are both ET and Janellllliott.”

Monáe, a 10-time Grammy-nominated artist and SAG Award-winning actress, previously revealed that she has an anonymous patron who funds her elaborate Halloween costumes, whom she refers to as her “Halloween fairy mother.”

“My job is to make people believe in their imagination. This is a job, this is my goal. Imagination inspires nations,” Monáe said The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s important to the Imagineers Committee that I go out and do good work. There is a fund dedicated to making people believe in art and in turn, performance art.”
