MIAMI – The Buffalo Bills turned defensive back Ja’Marcus Ingram’s first career interception into an early lead over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.

The first-quarter touchdown came on a 17-yard pass from quarterback Josh Allen to running back James Cook on fourth-and-3 after the Bills took a pregame timeout.

The Bills used pre-snap motion to put wide receiver Curtis Samuel in the backfield behind Allen while Cook moved from left to right next to the quarterback. Cook then ran left, caught the pass completely free and ran down the sideline toward the end zone.

The play capped a six-play, 37-yard drive that came after Ingram ended the Dolphins’ first drive of the game early. Ingram plays in the team’s dime package while Cam Lewis starts at nickel corner for the injured Taron Johnson (forearm).

With that throw, Allen reached 226 career touchdown passes, passing Dan Marino and Peyton Manning (225) as the second-most players through their first seven seasons. The Bills scored a touchdown on their opening drive in only three games last season (and went 2-1 in those games). It was Cook’s first touchdown of the season.
