James Bond’s Aston Martin “Vanish” is for sale

A 2001 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish built to promote the James Bond film Die another day is available in the UK

The car was originally delivered to Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, complete with propeller machine guns and rocket launchers, but without the invisibility cloak that prompted Q to refer to the car as “the Vanish.” It also lacks the extendable tire studs that gave it grip during Die another days wild chase on the frozen lake, which is actually more like an arms race between Bond’s car and the Jaguar XKR of his enemy Zao.

For the film, EON Productions built special stunt vehicles equipped with Chevrolet small-block V8 engines, racing transmissions and four-wheel drive so they could perform on the Icelandic lake. “Most chases involve cars burning tires, running red lights, driving over sidewalks or driving through shop windows,” explained Action Unit Director Vic Armstrong. “But we had none of that. We had two cars on a lake. It was a challenge to make it visually interesting, so the cars kept moving, even when Bond’s car was on its roof, it kept sliding and shooting back on its wheels.”

The car for sale has thankfully stood upright its entire life. Finished in Skye Silver metallic over maroon leather, the Vanquish, chassis number 007, is otherwise stock and fully roadworthy. In fact, it has covered a remarkable 54,700 miles, all of which is documented in the vehicle’s history. It is being sold on Auto Trader with a 12 month warranty and 12 month MOT for £99,950, or just under $130,000.
