Jake Moody injury: 49ers kicker carted off field after attempted tackle

San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody suffered an injury in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury occurred when Moody attempted a tackle during a kickoff in the second quarter. After the attempted tackle, Moody grabbed his lower leg before leaving the field.

Moody walked to the bench before being carried from the sideline to the 49ers’ locker room. Due to an ankle injury, the team classified his return as questionable.

Before the injury, Moody made two field goals and two extra points in the game against the Cardinals. Entering the game, the former Michigan Wolverines player made 11 of his 12 field goal attempts and 10 of his 10 extra point attempts this year.

The 49ers selected Moody in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made the All-Rookie team last year after making 21 of his 25 field goals and 60 of his 61 extra points.

Robbie Gould has high hopes for Jake Moody

Back in July, former 49ers kicker Robbie Gould said that Moddy would have a great 2024 season. “I think there’s a really high ceiling for him, not just from a physical standpoint but technically,” Gould told NBC Sports Bay Area. “I’m sure he worked on some things this offseason that got him from college to the NFL. I think he will have an even better season this year.”

Gould added: “I was at 76 percent, 78 percent my rookie year. There is so much you need to learn. So much of a transition to the game. And you definitely saw that he took a bigger step in that direction as the season went on, and I think he’s going to have a really good year.”

During Moody’s time at Michigan, he was named the Big Ten Kicker of the Year in 2021 and 2022. He also won the Lou Groza Award in 2021 after making 22 of 24 field goal attempts and 56 of 56 extra points.
