Is Frank Ocean on “ST. CHROMA” there? Fans Hope for a Feature on Tyler, The Creator’s “Chromokopia”

Dear Frank Ocean fans, we have been called. On October 16th, Tyler, The Creator released the teaser for his upcoming album Chromocopy entitled “ST. CHROMA.” The teaser, just over a minute long, included an excerpt from the upcoming album as well as some familiar voices. And if you’re a delusional fan like me, you’ve probably whispered and screamed: Wait, is Frank Ocean in “ST. CHROMA?”

For Frank Ocean fans, being hopeful (to the point of illusion) about new music is a way of life. To be fair, the artist is known for dropping a masterpiece of an album out of nowhere, then disappearing for years, leaving us all wondering when or if we’ll ever get a new project. It’s been almost 10 years since he was released Blond (the best album of all time, in my opinion) and despite his appearance on Travis Scott Astroworld in 2018 and since then, announcing new music here and there, there has been radio silence from Ocean.

As his good friend, frequent collaborator and former Odd Future group member Tyler “ST. CHROMA,” which featured some very Frank-coded backup vocals, fan theories flooded social media. And I have to say, the speculation almost had me.

So is Frank Ocean on “St. Chroma” Or not?

I hate to break it to you, dear ones, but we’ve been betrayed again. The track’s backing vocals are actually by Daniel Caesar, which he confirmed on social media the day the teaser was released. “I sang some vocals on it, I’m very proud,” he wrote, sharing the clip on Instagram Stories. “I can’t wait for you all to hear the whole record.” And while it’s entirely possible that Ocean also contributed to the backing track, neither he nor Tyler have spoken about it.

Chromocopy is scheduled to be released on October 28th (i.e literally Ocean’s birthday). Whether or not Ocean will appear on the album is uncertain, but I know I’m not the only hopeful (and borderline delulu) fan out here expressing this.

My dear Frank friends, see you there.
