Inzaghi admits Inter “had to be more sober” in their 1-0 win over Venezia.

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi admits his side “had to be more sober” in their 1-0 Serie A win over Venezia.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke on Italian broadcaster DAZN FCInterNewsafter the narrow victory.

In the end, Inter got the three points they were hoping for against Venezia this evening.

But it certainly wasn’t an easy win for the Nerazzurri.

There was late drama when Venezia full-back Marin Sverko thought he had equalized late in stoppage time.

However, the goal was disallowed because the 26-year-old handled the ball as it went into the net.

Meanwhile, Inter had a goal disallowed due to a narrow offside position from full-back Federico Dimarco.

And there were a few instances where Inter seemed to have good chances but shot high and wide.

They also met Filip Stankovic, a Nerazzurri youth team goalkeeper on loan at Venezia, who made a number of excellent saves against his parent club.

Inzaghi admits Inter “need to be more sober” against Venezia.

Inter made the breakthrough midway through the second half.

It was captain Lautaro Martinez who headed the goal from an inch-perfect cross from Federico Dimarco that was worth all three points for his team.

However, the fact that the Nerazzurri were unable to score made the game that much more nerve-wracking for them and their fans.

And Inter keeper Yann Sommer had to help his team out of trouble a few times.

“Of course we had to be more clinical,” admitted Inter coach Inzaghi.

“But I also complimented the team at the end of the first half,” he said. “We missed some good chances from Mkhitaryan and Thuram.”

“The game would have been easier if we had scored those goals,” he said.

Inzaghi noted: “At the start of the second half we lost a bit of compactness between the lines.”

“That was partly due to the substitutions that Venezia made.”

“We allowed a chance, but Sommer defended it well.”

“And then when we went on, the big mistake in our game was that we didn’t get it done.”

“In Serie A the games are always on the line,” said Inzaghi.

“In the last action there is a handball and a push on Bisseck,” added the Inter coach. “But you have to be more clinical.”

“You can’t just be 1-0 up with seven minutes of injury time.”

“But the honor also goes to Venezia,” added the Nerazzurri coach.

And about next weekend’s top game with Napoli, Inzaghi said: “It will be an important game.”

“But on Wednesday we will face one of the strongest teams in Europe,” said the Inter coach, looking ahead to his team’s Champions League game against Arsenal.

“We have to be prepared for a great game. Because we are playing against a team with enormous quality.”

“At the moment I’m just thinking about Arsenal,” Inzaghi said.
