Inter vs Arsenal: Champions League – live | International

Important events

Pennant clock. Both clubs are kept simple and have no frills; none of the elegant institutions are full of baroque frills. Credit to Arsenal for the metal track, which goes a step further than Inter’s simple cable-based suspension system, but all day long a two-tone backdrop is better than plain white, allowing the hosts to win a tight and classic clash.

Arsenal make one change to the eleven used for Saturday lunchtime’s unimpressive 1-0 defeat at Newcastle. Declan Rice picked up an injury and did not travel with the team in the hope of featuring against Chelsea at the weekend. Ben White comes to the side. As expected, Martin Ødegaard returns after his long injury break and takes a place on the bench.

The hosts Inter, on the other hand, are well rested. Simone Inzaghi returns five players who dropped out in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Venezia. Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Davide Frattesi, Mehdi Taremi, Matteo Darmian and Yann Bisseck return to the starting eleven, while Nicolò Barella, Marcus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco and former Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan return to the bench.

preamble

Inter and Arsenal have already met twice. The away team won comfortably both times. Thierry Henry missed a penalty at Highbury when the Italians won 3-0 in September 2003 and scored twice in the Nerazzurri’s 5-1 win at the San Siro a few months later. So in that sense, history speaks for Mikel Arteta’s team tonight. But recent history is different: Inter have won seven of their last eight games in all competitions, losing only in the Milan derby in September this season, while the Gunners have picked up just one of the last nine available Premier League points , and looked clearly unsure as they hosted Shakhtar in their final Champions League game. So in The History doesn’t bode well… but Martin Ødegaard could return from injury, which would give struggling Arsenal a huge boost ahead of this difficult but exciting clash against the Italian champions. Kick-off at San Siro is 8pm GMT. It’s on!
