Instagram appears to be down as thousands of users report outages

Instagram appears to be down as users in various countries have reported outages of the Meta-owned app in the last hour.

Users who try to access Instagram’s website are met with a message saying “Something went wrong” and that the platform is “working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Thousands of reports of the app’s outage were submitted to the website and service monitoring platform Downdetector in various territories, including a peak of nearly 500 reports in just 10 minutes in the UK and over 1,500 in India.

Several users took to X to report the problems they faced while trying to access Instagram.

One user said they could access the story feed through the app but couldn’t upload posts.

Another said the “website isn’t working.”

“Wait a minute, Instagram is down. “I thought I just had internet problems?” another X user wrote.

About 60 percent of reported issues on Downdetector are due to users not being able to access Instagram’s website.

Nearly 20 percent say they can’t log in, and another 20 percent complain that they no longer have access to their accounts through the Instagram app.

In total, almost 4,000 reports about Downdetector have appeared from around the world in the last hour.

The Tradeoff Between Instagram Best Practices: Creativity vs. Conformity?

The platform appears to be gradually returning to normal functioning, as evidenced by a decreasing number of outage reports.

Instagram last experienced a major global outage in June, when thousands around the world reported problems accessing the platform.

Most outage reports at the time were issues related to the platform’s feed.

Other Meta-owned apps Threads and Facebook seem to run smoothly.

The source of the latest edition remains unclear at the time of publication.

Meta usually does not provide information about how or why such problems occur.
