GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Election Day is just over a month away.

The Mesa County Clerk & Recorders Office has advice for first-time voters in Colorado.

Colorado residents are automatically eligible to register as a voter if they have a valid driver’s license or state-issued identification card or provide the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Bobbie Gross, Mesa County clerk and recorder, said Mesa County residents can also visit the Mesa County elections office. For CMU students, voter registration events will be held at the plaza (the next registration event is scheduled for October 2nd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

When it comes to how to receive your ballot, “Colorado is a vote-by-mail only state. So we will mail you a ballot as long as your address is updated,” Gross said.

Gross said voters can also drop off their ballot at a designated drop box, drop it off at the vote center or vote at an in-person booth.

Gross has a few more words of advice for Colorado voters.

“When the election date approaches, don’t mail your ballot, just drop it off,” Gross said. “We want to make sure your vote is counted and we get it in a timely manner.”
