India vs New Zealand 2024/25, IND vs New Zealand 3rd Test Match Report, November 1-5, 2024

Lunch New Zealand 92 for 3 (Young 38*, Mitchell 11*, Washington 2-26) vs India

Washington Sundar removed two left-handed batsmen bowling on the off-stump after New Zealand won another crucial toss on what looked like a pitch that was about to turn worryingly. New Zealand had managed to get ahead in the first session in Pune but here Washington and R Ashwin kept them at bay after Akash deep got rid of Devon Conway.

India were missing Jasprit Bumrah due to a viral illness and started Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. There wasn’t much seam movement, but enough evidence of uneven bounce. Akash Deep was precise and tested with his angle around the wicket, he caught Conway back to a full ball and caught him with a seam movement on the left side of his body.

However, scoring seemed easy for Tom Latham and Will Young as the pair finished their stints.

When the second spinner was introduced, Washington produced two beauties to get rid of Latham and Rachin Ravindra. It was particularly annoying for Latham, who was hit on the pad by one that didn’t spin, followed by another with identical seam alignment and trajectory that spun past the outside edge and took off the top. Ravindra was still new to the crease when Washington turned a ball wide and threw it for the third time in the series.

Now more curves and more natural variations were visible. Young and Daryl Mitchell negotiated in the final half hour but both sides were regularly threatened throughout their 20-in-7-over partnership.
