India vs New Zealand 2024/25, IND vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match Report, October 24-28, 2024

Throw New Zealand chose Bat vs India

After losing a toss that proved good to lose, Tom Latham won the toss that was good to win. The pitch in Pune was dry, especially on the length which was good for the spinners. It was clear it was a first batter pitch.

With Kane Williamson ruled out for this Test, New Zealand’s batting line-up remained the same. A glute injury to Matt Henry led to a change in bowling. Mitchell Santner introduced the extra spin option and also increased the batting speed. Santner had a disappointing tour of Sri Lanka.
India made three changes. Washington Sundar, who wasn’t even part of the squad originally, was brought into the eleven at the expense of Kuldeep Yadav, who the New Zealand batters didn’t necessarily let go of in Bengaluru. India may have wanted to lengthen their batting order, but they also wanted this spin-bowling all-rounder to take the ball away from the left-handed batsmen in the New Zealand lineup.
Shubman Gill returned to his third spot and Sarfaraz Khan – his replacement – was rewarded for his 150 in the last Test. So KL Rahul made way for Gill. The third change was similar, with Akash Deep replacing Mohammed Siraj, who looked impressive at times but didn’t pick the wickets India would have wanted from him.

New Zealand 1 Tom Latham (captain), 2 Devon Conway, 3 Will Young, 4 Rachin Ravindra, 5 Daryl Mitchell, 6 Tom Blundell (week), 7 Glenn Phillips, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Will O’Rourke, 11 Ajaz Patel

India 1 Yashasvi Jaiswal, 2 Rohit Sharma (Capt.), 3 Shubman Gill, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 Rishabh Pant (Week), 6 Sarfaraz Khan, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Washington Sundar, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Akash Deep
