India vs New Zealand, 1st Test Day 5 Weather report: Rain to help Rohit Sharma and Co. defend 106?

The fourth day of the ongoing 1st Test between India and New Zealand ended early after poor light initially halted play before heavy rain led to early stumpings in Bengaluru. Just four balls after New Zealand began chasing 107, the on-field umpires took off the reading on the light meter and walked off the field as dark clouds hovered over the stadium. The Indian players expressed their disappointment over this. However, heavy rain set in, so the day’s game ended prematurely.

New Zealand were 0/0 after captain Tom Latham survived four deliveries from Jasprit Bumrah, including an LBW appeal. However, with a full day of play remaining on Sunday, visitors have plenty of time to determine the total.

However, the rain could have the final say on the outcome of the game. According to AccuWeather, rain is likely to return the final day, with the forecast calling for an 80 percent chance of rain.

In addition, the sky is likely to be under cloud cover throughout the day. “Mostly cloudy with thunderstorms,” AccuWeather’s forecast said.

If no play is possible on Day 5, the game will end in a draw. For New Zealand, this result would be like a missed opportunity.

While the Indian team would give everything to force a result on day five, a draw wouldn’t be a bad result for them, especially considering the hosts were bowled out for a meager 46 in the first innings.

New Zealand were rewarded for their patience after Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant got the better of the bowlers in the first two sessions on Day 4.

Sarfaraz, who scored 150, and left-hander Pant, who scored 99, scored 177 runs for the fourth wicket, overtaking India’s huge deficit of 356, before the second new ball gave the Black Caps victory.

Sarfaraz, who reached his first ton in four Test appearances, fell shortly after reaching 150 when he was caught at cover off Tim Southee.

O’Rourke denied Pant his century with a delivery from near the wicket that hit the edge of the bat and rattled the stumps, and then removed KL Rahul for 12 with the stroke of tee.

Pant came to bat after a break on Friday due to a knee injury.

Fast bowlers Matt Henry and William O’Rourke took three wickets each to bowl India out for 462 in the final session in Bengaluru.
