Incredible moment: Amusement park employee catches cell phone falling from attraction

A man standing near a ride at an amusement park became an unexpected hero on TikTok after making an incredible catch.

The moment was captured in a video posted by TikTok user @mamasiii on August 11. The footage shows a passenger car rolling over, causing a cellphone to slip from the hand of one of the passengers.

The video, which has been viewed more than 1.5 million times since its release, includes an overlay message that reads: “When your son’s girlfriend drops her phone while driving and it lands right in the guy’s hand.”

The viral clip shows the car swinging high into the sky and the phone suddenly falling. Miraculously, the device lands right in the hands of a man standing nearby, who quickly catches it before it hits the ground.

After catching the phone, the man is seen shaking his hand, likely reacting to the force of the impact. The caption to the video reads: “So glad I caught this, shout out to him.”

The viral post comes as the global amusement parks market size was valued at $56.32 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.2 percent from 2023 to 2030, according to a report by Grandview Research, a San Francisco-based market research and consulting firm. The report noted, “Innovative rides, accommodation options and merchandise at amusement parks are gaining increasing popularity among visitors of all ages.”

“The result is that more and more adults and children are visiting theme parks, thereby expanding the target audience,” the report says.

Last month, Six Flags and Cedar Fair completed an $8 billion merger, creating a “leading amusement park operator” that will manage more than 51 properties across North America.

‘How lucky’

TikTok users were impressed by the man’s quick reflexes and extraordinary luck in his catch. User e commented, “I just know it hurt.” The original poster echoed the sentiment, replying, “It hurt!! He was looking at his hand the whole time and shaking it.”

“HOW LUCKY CAN YOU BE?” posted @kamihrt, while hamani589 added, “THAT WAS SO COOL.”

Others were delighted by the man’s reaction. “I know he was proud,” commented @darealmonze, while another user, ahem, wrote: “His face was awe-inspiring when he caught it.”

User sav posted, “I would start crying tears of joy,” and Brandy added, “I would be on my hands and knees thanking this man.”

Newsweek has reached out to the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
