In a democracy we get the government we deserve

Candidate Trump made a lot of promises and insulted a lot of people, but experts assured us that Trump should be taken seriously, but not literally.

He kept some promises. He cut taxes on corporations and the wealthy and increased the national debt by $7.8 trillion. He shut down the government for a month and tried to wrest $5.7 billion from a Republican-controlled Congress to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He never got the money, never built the wall, and its closure cost the nation $11 billion.

He reneged on his promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Some promises may simply have to wait for his second term.

During Trump’s first term, the White House seemed to send out press releases almost every week announcing that Infrastructure Week was coming. The president had promised to invest $1 trillion in the country’s crumbling infrastructure, and this week, or next week, or the week after that, of course, would be the week he delivered on that. Infrastructure week didn’t come until 2021, when the Biden administration and Congress crafted the bipartisan $553 billion infrastructure bill.

This time there is a plan. If you didn’t read it before the election, it’s a little late now.
