With the Netflix documentary series Starting 5 out today, it was only a matter of time before the internet edited out some of the best bits and the thing went viral. If you’ve never seen an entrance before and there were some of the best players in the world on the microphone, it’s pretty normal.

The clip below does just that, with Ant talking about the first matchup between the Celtics and Wolves

Well, I’m not going to do what I think most of you expected when I first saw this and freaked out. In fact, my attitude is the opposite. I love it. That is Exactly What I was hoping for from this series and honestly as I watch more episodes I’m excited for what’s to come.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Ant talking like that and being confident after a big OT win. As we know, for the teams that beat the Celtics in the regular season last year, it was their NBA title. Sure, it’s a little strange to talk like that in a game where Tatum was 32/5 on 54% shooting, but whatever. That’s the beauty of competition. Plus, we all know what happened the next time these two teams played

Call me crazy, but I think talking shit in sports is a good thing. Something we need more of if we’re honest. Say what you want and then let’s see if you can rise to the occasion and back up your opinion. If that bothers you or Ant’s talking gets on your nerves, I would say grow up. Welcome to sports and welcome to the Anthony Edwards experience. Part of the reason the upcoming season will be so much fun is that now is the time for Ant to win. All this talk will quickly become boring if Wolves continue to fail to even reach the final, let alone win a title.

This clip (and the series as a whole) also made me think about how much ESPN/TNT/ABC fiddled with using microphones on players during the season. When that happens, it usually just results in a player yelling or doing something uninteresting during warmups. Give us the good stuff! Give us the trash talk we all know takes place during the game, especially when some of the league’s biggest talkers are on microphones. We shouldn’t have to wait for these one-off series on Netflix when I’m pretty sure those networks have the stuff during the games. I would even say that I would pay even more for a channel that shows everything unfiltered. Add it to my League Pass fee and I’m happy to pay it.
