If the Jets trade Haason Reddick to the NFC team, they will owe the Eagles a second-round pick

As Agent Drew Rosenhaus explores potential trading targets Jets defensive end Haason Reddick still has term left in the trade that sent Reddick to New York, complicating the deal.

PFT has confirmed that if the Jets deal Reddick to an NFC team, the price the Jets will pay to the Eagles will increase from a third-round pick in 2026 to a second-round pick in 2026. (This nugget was first reported by Josina Anderson on Tuesday.)

This means the price of a trade to an NFC team (like the Lions) will be higher than to an AFC team. This would also make the NFC team less inclined to pay Reddick the salary that an AFC team would offer. The trading fee and the player fee together create a total price for the transaction. The more the trade costs, the less the team wants to pay. And vice versa.

Honestly, the whole exercise feels like an attempt to let Rosenhaus and Reddick see what’s out there. Or more specifically, what isn’t out there. Once Reddick realizes there isn’t a better contract offer elsewhere, Reddick could be ready to make a deal with the Jets.

This could be the best time to make a deal with the Jets. As a source noted Tuesday, the Davante Adams trade suggests that Jets owner Woody Johnson is determined to give the impression that he made the right decision in firing coach Robert Saleh.

This attitude could lead Woody to pay Reddick more than he would have had to pay before Saleh was sent away.
