“I just wanted to thank everyone”

WCVB NewsCenter 5 anchor Doug Meehan is back at work less than a week after he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Meehan, 60, returned to the Boston television anchor desk early Wednesday morning after the frightening medical incident last week.

The prostate cancer survivor reported that he had an intestinal obstruction. But less than a week later he was back at WCVB.

“Good morning everyone,” Meehan said in a TikTok post from the WCVB studio around 3 a.m.

“We’re getting back to work,” he added. “So that’s good news. Um, it’s better to be here at 3 a.m. than where I was.”

Meehan showed pictures of an IV in his arm, his feet as he lay on a stretcher in an ambulance, and a CT scan of his abdomen/pelvis.

“So I want to thank everyone again for your well wishes, your thoughts and all your love,” Meehan said. “So it helped me get through it, and we’ll see if we end up back on the… back on the old gerbil wheel.”

Meehan’s fans were happy to see him back on the show.

“Glad to see @dougmeehan back on @WCVB this morning!! Glad to see he is doing better!!!” one person wrote.

“Welcome back @dougmeehan. I was so happy when I saw you on the news this morning. I wish you a speedy recovery,” wrote another fan.
