“I could imagine him becoming the next star”

We asked for your opinion after Rangers began their mission to defend the League Cup with a win against St Johnstone.

Here’s what they had to say:

Robert: Reaching the next round was the positive. The negative was a less than convincing performance. The biggest problem is the midfield, where Rangers lack a dominant player who can control the game and create chances. Tavernier also looks unfit and loses the ball far too easily. And the celebration afterwards was over the top.

John: We need to sign Lawrence Shankland now. The fans need a boost and only signing a player who we know can do that. I think the new signings are no better than those who have left so the future is far from bright.

Horse: The performance seemed a little better than usual but I think the goal was a little lucky. We deserved to win and were by far the better team (nice change) but you still can’t rely on goals that might not have been given by other referees.

Thomas: Not impressed with our usual struggle against a team that is holding back. The size of the crowd reflects how boring we are to watch. Still obsessed with making a hundred passes in our own half. Barron at least brings some much needed pace and energy to our sluggish team.

Steve: It’s important to look at the positives. Jefte played very well, even though it’s not his natural position. Cerny caused problems on the right until he got tired. Barron was our best player when he came on. He’s a very intelligent and talented player.

Ernie: They can’t even play school football, it’s awful to watch. That big punt doesn’t happen in modern football. Clements own players aren’t much better than the ones that were there.

Failure: Dessers is the only bright spot for Rangers. If only he had more creative players around him. Once Rangers score a goal they become extremely negative. With the number of muscle injuries sustained, the question is, in terms of training? The board needs to set priorities and give Clement the resources he needs.

Finlay: You can see Clement’s plan taking shape and all his players are improving. I could see Barron being the next star and many others as well. Good finishes from Dessers and McCausland to give us the win. We will now turn our eyes to the Old Firm which could be crucial if we are to try and win the title this season.
