I am now convinced that Channing Tatum’s Gambit film would be the perfect start to the MCU’s mutant saga

Summary

  • Channing Tatum finally debuted as live-action Gambit in the MCU
    Deadpool and Wolverine
    and I want more.
  • Channing Tatum is reportedly in talks to play Gambit in an MCU solo film, which I think would work as the first project in the MCU’s speculated “Mutant Saga.”
  • Gambit’s return to the MCU provides an opportunity to establish clear continuity while also introducing other notable mutants to the franchise, including Rogue, Mister Sinister, and even Wolverine himself.

After his recent debut in the MCU, I would love to see Channing Tatum return for a solo gambit film, possibly as the first project in Marvel Studios’ speculated “Mutant Saga.” After years of vying for the role of Cajun Remy LeBeau, Channing Tatum finally made his live-action debut as Marvel’s Gambit in 2024 Deadpool and Wolverine. His performance was met with great praise, contributing to some of the film’s most entertaining and memorable moments, so I would be disappointed if the film ended so soon.

Thanks to his troubled past as a villain turned hero, Gambit is one of Marvel’s most complex and beloved mutant characters, so I was delighted to see the faithful adaptation of the hardened fighter in Deadpool and Wolverine. Channing Tatum originally auditioned for the role of Gambit in 2006 X-Men: The Last Standand has since spent nearly two decades bringing the character to life. Now that we’ve had a taste, I want more, so I would love to see Channing Tatum return as Gambit to lead the MCU’s possible “Mutant Saga.”

Channing Tatum talks to Marvel about a solo Gambit movie

I would love to see Channing Tatum return to Deadpool and Wolverine as Gambit

After the release of Deadpool and WolverineSpeculations have surfaced that Channing Tatum could lead a solo MCU film as Gambit. This was even supported by Tatum himself, who revealed in an interview with Screen Rant that he “in conversation with Kevin (Feige)” about a possible return as a mutant. In the hope “bring it to life”Channing Tatum is obviously very keen to come back, and I think his possible solo MCU film would be a strong start to the Mutant Saga.which is rumored to follow Marvel Studios’ current Multiverse saga.

I’m not going to bore anyone with what we wanted to do with our (Gambit) movie, but we did an origin story. We wanted to do something that was actually set in the world and could play with Deadpool. You put Deadpool in a lot of scenes with other MCU characters and he could potentially be making fun of them the whole time. But he wouldn’t, because Ryan loves comics and he loves Marvel.

Honestly, I would do pretty much any version of Gambit. I think hopefully we will. At least I talk to Kevin and I just want to be a part of all the MCU stuff. To be able to dress up as him one more time would be enough. I felt (
Deadpool and Wolverine
) was really a wish-wish kind of thing that my boyfriend did for me. It was like, ”
Come in and I’ll let you dress up as your favorite superhero
.” I had an out-of-body experience when I was standing next to Hugh. It was like: “
Oh my God, there’s Wolverine. There’s Blade! Elektra – everyone’s here, this is wild
.”

Your mouth to God’s ears, friend. Help me to bring it to life.

Gambit deserves a solo film after the constant rejection of the Fox X-Men franchise

Channing Tatum’s Gambit was ignored by Fox for nearly two decades

Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in a superhero pose in X-Men Origins Wolverine

Since his Marvel Comics debut in the 1990s The Uncanny X-Men Annual No. 14Gambit is considered one of the best mutant characters in the Marvel Universe. Despite his great popularity 20th Century Fox never managed to properly integrate Gambit into its two-decade-long X-Men franchise. As I said, Channing Tatum spoke for the first time for gambit as the figure in an early draft of X-Men: The Last Standbut he was eventually fired, and due to Tatum’s unavailability, Taylor Kitsch portrayed Gambit in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine instead.

Marvel finally did justice to an overlooked X-Men character after 15 years of live-action disappointment

Marvel Studios’ X-Men 97 continues to be compelling, and the animated series has shown more respect to a mutant than Fox’s X-Men films ever did.

In 2014 X-Men Producer Lauren Schuler Donner revealed Full film (above (The Hollywood Reporter) that Channing Tatum would appear as Gambit in 2016 X-Men: Apocalypsefollowed by a solo gambit film. That project went through a number of rewrites and multiple directors before it was officially shelved in the wake of Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019. I found it incredibly satisfying to finally see Channing Tatum as Gambit after years of being snubbedand that brings me to the conclusion that he deserves a solo MCU movie more than most other upcoming mutant heroes.

The return of Channing Tatum’s Gambit to the Mutant Saga creates continuity in the MCU

Marvel Studios could focus mainly on the X-Men after the end of the Multiverse saga

Wolverine, Blade, Gambit, X-23, Deadpool and Elektra in the resistance team in Deadpool & Wolverine

With Marvel Studios expected to shift its focus from the Avengers to new mutant characters and the X-Men following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, a sense of continuity could be lost. This is especially true if every mutant hero audiences have grown to love over the past 24 years is recast, but I think Channing Tatum’s return as Gambit could be an easy solution to that problem. Tatum was already known as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverineso his return would create a connection to the MCU’s past.

Gambit was hinted to return to the MCU in
Deadpool and Wolverine
Post-credits scene where he is seen on a screen in the Time Variance Authority, still wandering through the void.

Channing Tatum has also been a popular cast member for Gambit for several years, making his debut in Deadpool and Wolverine more satisfying. His first appearance in a live-action series has only increased hopes for his return. This probably means that Any solo film featuring Channing Tatum’s Gambit in the future of the MCU would have virtually guaranteed audience numbers and successAll in all, this would be a very strong start for the Mutant Saga and should therefore not be overlooked by Marvel Studios.

Gambit’s solo MCU film could introduce other notable X-Men characters

Gambit has connections to many heroes and villains in Marvel comics

While some have expressed doubts about Gambit being a strong enough character for a solo film, I don’t share those concerns, especially given his connections to a wide range of other heroes and villains in the Marvel comics. Equipped with a gambit The film as the first part of the “Mutant Saga” would be the perfect opportunity to introduce other notable charactersPerhaps Gambit’s long-standing, on-again, off-again romance with Rogue could be addressed in this film, bringing a more comic-accurate portrayal of the mutant into the real-life storyline, according to Anna Paquin’s controversial interpretation.

In his past as a villain turned anti-hero, he also worked for the fearsome X-Men villain Mister Sinister.

Besides Rogue, Gambit also formed a close friendship with X-Men member Storm and helped her defeat the Shadow King while she was depowered.. His history as a villain turned anti-hero also saw him work for the formidable X-Men villain Mister Sinister and lead the Marauders, a group of morally questionable mercenaries. Gambit also witnessed Wolverine’s escape from the Weapon X facility, so I think a Solo gambit The film in the MCU’s “Mutant Saga” could lay the foundation for some of Marvel’s biggest mutant stories.
