    An electric vehicle with a large battery is a real environmental disaster because of the way the battery materials are degraded and the cost of electricity over its lifetime.

    I am a car and truck enthusiast. My daily vehicle is a truck. I use it to pull boats and trailers. My truck is as nice as many luxury cars, it is comfortable to drive, and it provides the utility I need.

    I have driven my vehicles for years. EVs do require less frequent maintenance, but when they break down it can be very expensive. EVs are not the big “green” machines they are touted to be. An EV with a big battery is an environmental killer because of the way battery materials degrade and the lifetime cost of electricity. You have to drive an EV for over 5 years before you break even with a gasoline vehicle on emissions. Where does the electricity come from? From coal-fired power plants. The range of EVs and the lack of working charging stations make them unsuitable for trips over 300 miles. Electric trucks are a waste of time and money. They have terrible range when towing a trailer. And what do you end up doing with the battery when its life is up?

    Electric vehicles are expensive to buy and run and offer limited utility. You have to drive them for years to offset the environmental damage compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. The way things are with electric vehicles now, I may consider buying one when I’m over 85 (many years from now) and only drive to the shops and church.

    The introduction of electric vehicles is delayed for good reason

    An electric vehicle is a great choice for someone who just wants to drive around town in a super-nice golf cart in mild weather. When you consider all factors, there is no evidence that electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly than a modern internal combustion engine.
