Hugh Grant plays Tony the Tiger in his new film

Hugh Grant will play Tony the Tiger in the new film “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.”

Directed by Jerry Seinfeld, the Netflix comedy follows cereal rivals Kellogg’s and Post in 1960s Michigan as they compete to invent a pastry that will change breakfast forever.

“A story of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen,” says the film’s official synopsis.

Empire posted a photo of Grant in the costume of the iconic cereal mascot on Instagram earlier this month, and Netflix released a first image of the film’s ’60s-inspired set.

In an interview with Empire, Seinfeld – who also stars in the upcoming film – talked about casting the Wonka star.

“That was honestly the best part of the whole thing. Because I’m a crazy fan of his,” he said. “(Grant) asked me if it was important that Tony the Tiger had a British accent. I told him, ‘No, who cares?'”

In addition to Grant and Seinfeld, Unfrosted features an all-star cast, including

Melissa McCarthy from “The Little Mermaid,” Max Greenfield from “New Girl,” Dan Levy from “Schitt’s Creek,” James Marsden from “Jury Duty,” Jim Gaffigan from “Luca,” and comedian Amy Schumer.

The “Seinfeld” actor further explained how the film’s impressive cast came about: “Everyone I asked said yes, and that’s how we ended up with this crazy cast.”

The invention of the Pop-Tart has been on Seinfeld’s radar for some time, after he X – formerly Twitter – in 2018 to share his hopes of making a film based on the story.

“At one point I thought of an invention from the Pop-Tart movie. Imagine the culture of Battle Creek, Michigan, intoxicated by the sugar power of Kellogg’s cereal in the mid-’60s. That’s a mood I could work with,” he wrote.

“Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” premieres on Netflix on May 3.
