How two young brothers’ play in the back of the car led to them being seriously ill in the hospital

Five and six-year-old brothers from Colorado are fighting for their lives after a near-fatal car accident.

Blake Robinson, 5, was reportedly thrown from the vehicle his father, Jeremy, 39, was driving and was believed to have been struck by another vehicle moments later.

Blake’s older brother Brody, 6, is currently suffering from multiple injuries as a result of the horrific accident, including a fractured skull that his mother, Brittany, 38, was treated for on Friday, according to doctors.

Officers who responded to the scene “do not believe the children were strapped into their car seats,” Fox31 reports.

The nightmarish accident happened just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 130th Avenue and Holly Street in Thornton.

According to police, the vehicle Jeremy was driving to school with his elementary school-aged sons was hit by a truck.

Recalling the events of that fateful morning, the boys’ mother said she received a call from an unknown number which she initially rejected.

“My husband told me to get to the intersection of 130th and Holly immediately.” “That there had been a terrible accident and I heard screaming and sirens in the background.”

The 38-year-old mother recalls that her children were actually “buckled in when we left the house, and they were buckled in when we left the house.”

“Just be diligent with your kids,” she added, suggesting that the two boys may have unbuckled themselves.

The two boys were admitted to the intensive care unit of a local hospital after the serious accident, where each of them was sedated and placed on a ventilator in the hours after their arrival.

Since then, both brothers have had to undergo extensive procedures.

Blake underwent nearly seven hours of surgery to “essentially reconstruct the right side of his face and save his eye,” Brittany updated a GoFundMe page a family member created after the accident.

“Brody had surgery yesterday to repair a broken femur,” she added on Oct. 10.

“(Brody) has suffered a fractured skull and will be going back to the operating room today to repair it.” His brain appears fine, he suffered a traumatic brain injury, but they are confident he will recover will,” she said.

She has continued to update the page while the boys remain in intensive care.

The accident is currently under investigation to determine all contributing factors and who had the right of way.

There are no charges pending at this time, but police believe that could change.

The Robinson family’s journey is far from over, as Brittany says she felt “every emotion imaginable” in the hours following the tragic accident.

“Please kiss your babies goodbye every time they walk out the door,” she concluded her latest update.
