How to vote on Election Day in Los Angeles County – NBC Los Angeles

While millions of Californians are already voting by mail or at early voting centers, millions of others will choose the old-fashioned way to vote on Election Day.

For those who have not yet had the opportunity to vote or register, fear not: California offers eligible voters several options to participate in the election.

Voting centers

All vote centers in LA County will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All voters who stood in line at a polling station can still cast their vote even after the polling stations close.

Ballot boxes

All ballot drop boxes in LA County close on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The map of the ballot box can be found here.

Submitting mail-in ballots

They must be dropped off in person at a voting center or ballot box by Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Vote by mail

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than November 5th at 8:00 p.m. and received no later than November 12th.

If there is no postmark, ballots will be considered timely cast by county election officials if the date the voter signed the envelope is on or before Election Day. Therefore, be sure to sign and date your mailed vote envelope.

Not registered to vote?

Under California law, any eligible voter can register and vote on Election Day under certain conditions. However, this must be done in person.

An unregistered voter who wishes to vote on Election Day must appear at a vote center and receive a conditional voter registration from a poll worker.

When the conditional ballot is ready to be cast, it should be given to the poll worker during the official voting period to verify eligibility. Once the registrar/county clerk verifies voter eligibility, the ballot will be counted.

What if I have to work?

Employers in California are required to give employees time off to vote if they do not have enough time outside of work hours.

Employers are only required to pay for a maximum of two hours, but may require advance notice from employees who want to leave their jobs to vote.

The free time must be at the beginning or end of your shift. Employers are required to post notice 10 days before a national election.
