How President Joe Biden will work LESS in his new role – with vacations and plans to be a ‘replacement’ for Kamala Harris

The White House has remained silent for three weeks on how it plans to “recalibrate” the president’s activities – but Joe Biden’s new role as an occasional campaign worker, store supervisor and beach bum is already clearly evident in his activities.

Biden on Sunday made his first detailed comments about what he sees as his role in the 2024 campaign now that he is no longer the candidate.

It appears to be a schedule with a narrowly defined political role that will keep him relatively close to home while Vice President Kamala Harris is tasked with hopping between screaming crowds across the country.

When asked if people would see him campaigning across the country in the final stretch before the November election, Biden, 81, replied in a new interview: “Yes, you will.”

He spoke about his role as an adviser to Harris – whose chosen role is to advise him. “I talk to her frequently,” he told CBS, saying she has known her new running mate Tim Walz “for several decades” and thinks he’s a “great guy.”

Earlier, when asked directly by DailyMail.com whether he had given her a recommendation, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described Biden’s involvement in the selection process for Harris as vice president.

“The vice president has sought the advice of the president and – you know, she certainly welcomed his advice – the vice president welcomed his advice,” she said, calling the two “critical partners.”

The White House has sought time to “recalibrate” President Biden’s role. He spoke of “putting together a campaign tour in Pennsylvania.” On Sunday, he cycled near the beach

“But she asked him for advice. He gave her advice. She welcomed it. And I’ll just leave it at that,” she said.

Biden also announced a “campaign tour” through Pennsylvania, a state he regularly covers and where he was trailing Donald Trump in swing state polls before dropping out.

“I’ve spoken to Governor Shapiro, who is a friend. We need to win Pennsylvania, my home state. He and I are organizing a campaign tour through Pennsylvania. I’ll be campaigning in other states as well. And I’ll do whatever Kamala thinks is most helpful,” he said.

This plan has not yet been announced by the Harris campaign.

Biden’s first meeting with Harris will take place in Maryland, a state with a strong Democratic majority on the border of Washington DC. It is announced as an official event, not a campaign rally.

The vice president wants to deploy Biden “in targeted areas where he has the most strength,” Politico reported last week. That includes older white voters in states he won. “It’s very hard to imagine Harris’ team wanting him on the campaign trail there” after the party dropped him from the race, an official told the publication.

There are early signs that the Harris camp believes Biden can make a difference by keeping a low profile and allowing her to build her own brand. In a new New York Times-Siena poll, her popularity in Pennsylvania rose 10 points from a month ago, with her polling at 51 percent among Pennsylvania’s likely voters.

In a separate Hill/Emerson poll in the state in late July, Scranton-born Biden was polling at 37 percent.

There have been reports that Biden will appear at the Democratic convention in Chicago for just one day – the first – and then cede the stage to other Democratic bigwigs. The Clintons, Obamas and members of the Harris circle will be the main attractions at the event. It is unclear what role he might play in party fundraising.

When asked about his health, Biden repeated his refrain: “Take care.” “Look, I had a really, really bad day during this debate because I was sick. But I don’t have a serious problem,” he said during his interview.

Biden, however, does not seem to be giving up on his plans to get out of Washington over the weekend. On Thursday, he flew to his home state, thanked campaign staff and then headed to his beach house in Delaware.

His getaway included a bike ride and some time at the beach with his wife Jill and granddaughter Naomi.

The White House showed last week that it is not all just a joke for Biden when the president announced a complex prisoner exchange with Russia involving several countries and bringing Americans home.

Biden was joined by Harris as he greeted her at Joint Base Andrews. The president continues to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, which, if achieved, could benefit Harris more than any campaign appearance. He signed a joint letter with the leaders of Egypt and Qatar on Thursday saying there was “no more time to lose.”

When asked about a feared proxy attack on Israel, he issued a brief warning to Iran. “Don’t do that,” was his terse response to a question.

On his Sunday bike ride, he was asked about Gaza, but also about Donald Trump’s statement that he was angry about being displaced. The president smiled and waved as he rode by.
