How Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber had a bad time on Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the stars Season 33 has officially begun! Jenn Tran is one of two Bachelor Nation stars competing this season, along with Joey Graziadei. The competition couldn’t come at a better time for Jenn, as viewers recently witnessed the heartbreaking end to her season of The Bachelorette. Jenn became engaged to Devin Strader, who later broke off the relationship after filming ended. Although Devin was in love with Jenn all season, he later claimed he wasn’t in love with her.

Many Bachelor Nation fans were upset with the production following the finale of Jenn’s season. Viewers felt that producers should have done a better background check on Devin, who previously had a restraining order filed against him. Others were upset that Jenn had to sit next to Devin to look at the proposal after everything that happened. Unfortunately, Jenn’s bad luck isn’t quite over yet. Jenn and her partner Sasha Farber were treated somewhat unfairly during their first two “Dancing with the Stars” appearances. Here’s why they deserve better.

Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber’s cha cha seemed slightly underlined

On the first night, Jenn and Sasha performed a cha cha to Flowers by Miley Cyrus. The song was a perfect fit for Jenn considering what she’s been going through lately. Jenn and Sasha have great chemistry as dance partners and put on a great performance. From the moment she stepped on stage, Jenn was glowing and confident. Sasha also did a great job with the choreography and Jenn handled a number of complicated steps well.

However, when it came time to score, the duo only received a 19. That’s by no means bad for a first week dance, but it just felt like Jenn deserved a little more. Jenn had never danced before and her routine wasn’t exactly easy. For example, Jenn easily completed a portion of the routine that involved gliding across the floor and performing quick footwork. At the end of the dance, Jenn did an incredible jump that brought her all the way to the floor. While these moves may look effortless, they most certainly aren’t!

In the end, Jenn tied with fellow competitor Phaedra Parks, who also competed in Cha Cha. This made the casting seem even more unfair since Phaedra’s choreography wasn’t nearly as complicated as Jenn’s. A 19 seemed fitting for Phaedra, whose performance on the first night was also great. For Jenn, however, her dancing should have been somewhere in the low 20s.

Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber’s tango was definitely highlighted

While Jenn’s first dance was lightly underlined, her second dance was heavily underlined. The second night’s theme was the Oscars and Jenn and Sasha danced a tango to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” from “The Great Gatsby.” The pair really did a spectacular job, but again received a rating of 19.

This score seemed unfair and many online fans agreed with it. Once again, Sasha put together some great choreography for Jenn that she excelled at. At one point in the routine, Jenn even perfectly executed a one-handed cartwheel. We usually only see something like this from professionals! Otherwise, Jenn danced a beautiful tango and did all the moves perfectly.

The point that bothered me the most was that there wasn’t even a one point increase compared to the previous week. Looking at both of Jenn’s dances side by side, it’s clear that the second one deserves a higher score. Jenn was more confident in the second week and took control of the stage. Every aspect of her performance was an improvement, from her footwork to her facial expressions. Jenn’s Cha Cha probably deserves a higher grade than 19, but her tango certainly made it.

The judges granted clemency to other contestants, but not Jenn Tran

Another frustrating factor about Jenn’s second result is that she received no mercy for a technical mishap early in her dance. At the start of the routine, a technical glitch meant that Jenn and Sasha were unable to hear the track. Nevertheless, Jenn didn’t let this hold her back and still carried out the first steps very well. During the criticism, Derek Hough pointed it out, prompting Jenn and Sasha to explain what happened.

Jenn didn’t get a break for something she couldn’t control, but other contestants did. The two lowest scoring contestants of the night were Eric Roberts and Reginald VelJohnson. Both men received a 15, although they both received a 6 from Carrie Ann Inaba, which she also gave to Jenn. Although the choreography was limited and they didn’t move much during their routines, Carrie Ann stressed to both men that she scored because she took into account her older age. By the same token, Carrie Ann should have extended the same grace to Jenn because her music started late.

Mishaps aside, the fact that Carrie Ann gave Jenn the same score as Eric and Reginald is a little crazy. Jenn performed a beautiful number while Eric and Reginald danced about a third of what she did. It’s almost insulting to Jenn, who should have gotten at least sevens across the board. Hopefully Jenn will continue to improve and achieve higher scores in the coming weeks!
