House in Michigan split in half by falling trees after severe storm

UNION PIER, Mich. – Dramatic new drone video shows a home torn to pieces by falling trees following this week’s violent storms in southwest Michigan.

Video captured by Nate’s Dronegraphy shows the giant tree after it tore through a home at Union Pier in Berrien County. The tree crashed through the roof and landed on the ground. Thankfully, the home was unoccupied.

A severe weather warning was issued for the region, indicating destructive winds of up to 130 km/h. A gust of 106 km/h was measured 24 km away.

More than 100 reports of damage from the storms were received Tuesday from the Midwest to the Great Lakes region, including a gust of 76 miles per hour at Detroit International Airport – as strong as a Category 1 hurricane.

More than 115,000 utility customers were still without power across the state Thursday morning.
