Hot Work by Hot Wrk

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Hot Wrk Ensemble performs at UpFront Exhibition Space on Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m.
It is part of the “Groove Port” performance series.
Admission: 6:30 p.m.
The saxophone/woodwind and drums trio was founded in 2020 by award-winning musicians J. Brooks Marcus (J Why), Lois Hicks-Wozniak and Brad Hubbard.
The name is a homage to Olivia Kieffer’s composition “Hot Work”.
Hot Wrk uses diverse, cross-genre chamber grooves that incorporate collaborative improvisation. Hot Wrk asks and answers the question “What is chamber music?” and “explores, deconstructs and elaborates concepts of traditional chamber music and the concert experience,” wrote UpFront.
Hot Wrk’s programs may include Scarlatti, Son Jalisciense, Bossa Nova, funk, free jazz, prepared electronics, and original compositions by ensemble members.
The Hot Wrk Ensemble believes that chamber music can be a voice of change by engaging communities to contribute and participate in the creative process – breaking down systemic barriers that have relegated classical and jazz to niche markets.
UpFront is located at 31 Jersey Ave.
