Hornets add star LaMelo Ball to injury report against Pistons

*UPDATE: LaMelo Ball was cleared to play against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

Wednesday night’s matchup between the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons could miss the presence of All-Star guard LaMelo Ball.

According to the Hornets’ injury report, Ball is considered questionable. He is currently struggling with ankle pain.

Ball has struggled with ankle problems several times in recent seasons. Last year, Ball was forced to miss most of the 2023-2024 NBA season due to his injury issues. Before appearing in just 22 games last year, Ball only played in 36 games the year before.

Ball has appeared in every Hornets game so far this season. He got off to a hot start. In seven games, Ball averaged 29 points while shooting 47 percent from the field. With almost twelve three-point attempts per game, Ball hit 39 percent of his long-range shots.

In addition to his scoring efforts, Ball is averaging six assists and five rebounds. Defensively, he had 1.4 steals per game.

So far this season, the Hornets are 2-5. Their record is no surprise considering they were considered one of the Eastern Conference’s rebuilding squads entering the 2024-2025 season.

The Detroit Pistons felt the same way. However, they have been more successful so far this season. The Pistons are 3-5 in eight games. On Monday night they started their first winning streak of the season with a surprising win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Pistons want to make it third in a row on Wednesday. They face an undermanned Hornets team that will be missing Mark Williams, Nick Richards, DaQuan Jeffries and possibly LaMelo Ball. Cody Martin is also on the injury report and is listed as probable cause due to an illness.

The Pistons and Hornets will be eliminated at 7:00 p.m. ET.
