    Boss’s Day began in 1958 when a State Farm employee registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, according to Time and Date. She named October 16th because it was her father’s birthday.

    According to National Today, National Boss Day officially became a holiday in 1962 with the help of Illinois Governor Otto Kerner.

    Hallmark began selling tickets for the occasion in 1979.
