There is no shame in not knowing everything about everything, but for some people it is difficult to accept that they are uninformed or simply on the wrong track.

For people living outside the United States, it can be very difficult to grasp the enormous size of the country.

This woman’s new neighbor was originally from Ireland, but was not happy when she was told her planned road trip would take far too long.

Listen!

I (34, female) live in southern Arizona.

I have a new neighbor, an Irish woman (30s, female) who recently moved here with her American husband.

They moved into the apartment next door about a month ago.

Before that, they lived in New England, where the states are much, much smaller.

Comparison for those who have never thought about it: The state of Massachusetts is the same size from north to south as the distance from Tucson to Phoenix

She wanted them to take a not-so-small trip.

I’m single and my neighbor’s husband is away for a few weeks on work, so she thought it would be fun to take a day trip and show her around.

Great!

She wanted to start at the Grand Canyon.

Not good.

Then she thought it would be nice to go to Las Vegas for lunch.

Oh.. Oh no..

To illustrate this, she has shown the journey on Google Maps.

I tried to explain to her that she had chosen places that were much further apart than she thought, but she insisted that it couldn’t be that bad.

So I pulled up Google Maps and showed her how far away it was.

If we were to drive from here to the Grand Canyon, it would take us 7 hours without stopping for food or gas, and from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas it would take us 4 hours, and that’s not even including the drive home.

It is not an easy, fun day trip.

However, your neighbor misunderstood the matter.

After seeing the times, she now believes me about the distance, but says it was rude to show her a map.

She says if she didn’t understand what I said, it was my fault because I explained it poorly to her and that treating her like a fool or a child by showing it to her via Google was just an AH move.

I suggested a few places that were closer to us, but she shouted, “You better check the map first to make sure it’s not too far!” and went back to her apartment.

I really didn’t mean to upset her and I certainly don’t think she’s stupid or a child.

I just didn’t know how else to make her believe that the trip she wanted to take wasn’t possible.

Is this possible?

She’s afraid she was somehow rude or wrong.

You know Reddit will tell her!

It’s really just common sense.

They think the other woman’s reaction was a bit childish.

Oh well.

Just a small jump and a hope.

It’s not her fault that she felt silly.

I feel for the woman.

However, you must be open to learning new things!
