Cleetus McFarland’s Ram 1500 TRX Regular Cab was fitted with a Hellephant C170 for a little extra power. Think of the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 as the engine from the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, as the Hellephant C170 is also designed to deliver maximum power on E85.

The engine, currently on offer at Direct Connection for $27,675, has 1,025 horsepower and 1,281 Nm of torque, mirroring the performance figures of the most powerful mass-produced muscle car. Even the revs are similar: Direct Connection and the folks at Dodge list 6,500 and 4,200 rpm, respectively.

Really impressive numbers, and even more impressive when you consider that Dodge introduced the Hellcat in 2014 for the 2015 model year with 707 hp and 650 Nm on premium dino juice. For comparison, the TRX’s Hellcat has 702 hp and 650 Nm at full power.

Converting the stock 702-hp Hellcat to the 1,025-hp Hellephant C170 was pretty straightforward. Cleetus McFarland and his team used the oil filter adapter, oil pan, and air conditioning compressor from the original engine. As expected, the guys also installed a stainless cat-back exhaust with black tips.

Coordinated with the help of a HP Using Tuner’s MPVI interface device, the engine fired right up. The guys had to sort out a throttle issue, and three alternator belts later, the single cab was ready to roar. Breathing through a carbon fiber intake, the Hellephant C170 definitely sounds like a pro.

The custom TRX, pictured on stock Goodyear Wrangler Territory off-road tires, has just under 20,000 miles on the clock. It was recently repainted and instead of keeping it, Cleetus will be giving it away to one lucky fan.

For every $5 you spend on Cleetus McFarland air fresheners, clothing, stickers, and other stuff, you get one entry. In other words, the more stuff you buy from this guy, the better your chances of winning the one-of-a-kind truck – $20,000 in cash. Whatever the case, your chances are slim, because McFarland has 3.78 million subscribers on YouTube.

To convert this Ram 1500 TRX from a crew cab to a regular cab, no less than 31 inches (787.4 millimeters) were cut out of the frame rails. Although the suspension and transfer case mounting points were retained, the driveshaft also had to be shortened.

Although it is not clear how much money was spent on this construction, we can only estimate. McFarland called it “a $100,000 mistake” on day one, even though the 2021 model year TRX retailed for $69,995 before taxes and options. Let’s say the body shop got $10,000 to rebuild the regular cab. Add $27,675 for the Hellephant C170, then a few thousand for the belts and repaint, and you’re at least $115,000.
