Heavy snowfall will lead to accidents and closures on Wednesday

Update 10:25 a.m: According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the following roads were closed as of 10:25 a.m. Wednesday due to accidents or snow-related “safety concerns”:

  • I-70 westbound between Exit 260 to C-470 and Exit 259 to Morrison Road near Golden;
  • I-70 eastbound from E-470 near Watkins to US 24 near Limon;
  • I-70 westbound from Exit 438 at Rose Avenue in Burlington to US 49 near Limon;
  • US 24 in both directions between Woodmen Road in Colorado Springs and US 40 near Limon;
  • Colorado 59 in both directions between Kit Carson and Haxtun, about 50 miles southwest of the Colorado-Nebraska border near Sterling;
  • US 36 in both directions between Last Chance in Washington County and the Colorado-Kansas border;
  • Colorado 72 westbound between Camp Eden Road and Copperdale Lane near Coal Creek;

Update 9:10 a.m: Denver-bound US 36 has reopened after an early morning crash at Colorado 157 and Foothills Parkway near Boulder and Lousiville, CDOT officials said.

After a multi-vehicle crash, I-70 eastbound was also reopened around 9:05 a.m. at Colorado Mills Parkway in Lakewood, CDOT officials said.

Update 8:47 Am: I-70 eastbound in Lakewood remains closed off West Colfax Avenue after a multi-vehicle crash near Denver West Marriott Boulevard, police said. Police said they do not have an estimated reopening time for the highway.

According to sheriff’s officials, both Arapahoe County and Douglas County are currently on accident alerts. Anyone involved in an accident that does not involve drugs or alcohol should communicate with the other driver and file the accident report online.

Update 8:25 a.m: According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, Interstate 70 eastbound is closed between Limon and Burlington, just 13 miles west of the Colorado-Kansas border.

CDOT officials said the road is closed due to “safety concerns” as blizzards and blizzard-like conditions continue across the Plains. No estimated reopening time was available as of Wednesday morning.

Snow-related accidents also affected southbound Colorado 83 between Walden Way and Hodgen Road near Colorado Springs, US 24 in both directions in Peyton between Peyton Highway and Smith Ranch Road, and Colorado 17 in both directions nearby of Alamosa on County Road 109 shut down.

Original story: There were delays, accidents and road closures across Colorado Wednesday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of 7:45 a.m., Denver-bound U.S. 36 was closed near Boulder and eastbound Interstate 70 was closed near Lakewood, CDOT officials said.

US 36 eastbound is closed at Colorado 157 and Foothills Parkway near Boulder and Lousiville due to a crash, according to CDOT officials.

Information about the number of cars involved or an expected reopening time was not available, but several Waze users reported a “serious” accident and stationary traffic in the area.
