Hans Zimmer’s concert at the Oakland Arena was severely delayed, confusing fans

Oakland Arena’s gates and parking lots have reopened after being closed ahead of Thursday night’s Hans Zimmer concert.

A large police presence and many confused and frustrated fans gathered outside the venue, although it remains unclear exactly what happened that caused the arena to inexplicably close.

Hundreds of fans who wanted to attend the show were not allowed to enter the parking lot. Joshua Fox, who was from Modesto, was one of those fans waiting to get in to watch the concert.

“Well, it was packed and everything, but I think the doors closed around 7:20 a.m. and have been closed ever since. And I’m just waiting to hear something.” He said attendees were told there was “a safety concern that needs to be addressed before we can open a gate.”

The concert was originally scheduled to start at 8 p.m. At around 9:30 p.m. the arena announced that the show would start as soon as possible.

Fox said he saw police and possibly a SWAT vehicle at the site.

We have reached out to Oakland police and the Alameda County Sheriff for more information but have not yet heard back.

Zimmer, composer of “The Lion King,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and other film scores, is scheduled to perform at the Oakland Arena on Oct. 9.
