Halle Berry responds to Catwoman critics who say the film is “shitty”

Halle Berry hits back at critics of Catwoman on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the 2004 film.

During a recent interview on The Tonight ShowThe Oscar winner continued to praise the comic book film despite its negative reviews. The infamous film also earned Berry the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress of the Year.

“I loved it,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “It was panned. The critics said it was crap. And it’s not that bad.”

Berry continued, “I’m glad the kids have found it on the internet now and love it. So it’s a huge satisfaction. Because now they’re like, it’s cool and what the hell was everyone’s problem with it, so I’m like, ‘I’m such a brat now’ (referring to Charli XCX’s brat summer trend).”

Fallon called the actress “Bratwoman” and then asked her if she would ever reprise the role for another film. Berry replied, “Maybe,” but only if she could direct.

Berry had previously expressed interest in directing a Catwoman remake in 2021 and told Jake Hamilton that she wished she could “go back and reimagine Catwoman and do that again” with what she learned from directing 2020 Squeezedher feature film directorial debut.

“I would have Catwoman save the world like most male superheroes do, not just save women from having their faces blown off,” the actress said about Catwomanin which their superhero faces off against a corrupt cosmetics company. “I would set the stakes much higher and I think it should be more inclusive of both men and women.”

Berry also admitted Weekly entertainment Last month, she said the negative press surrounding the Pitof-directed film had affected her at the time because she was blamed for its “failure”.

“I wasn’t happy (with the backlash),” she said. “As a black woman, I’m used to carrying negativity on my back, struggling, being a fish swimming against the current alone… A little bad publicity for a movie? I wasn’t thrilled, but it wasn’t going to turn my world upside down or stop me from doing what I love to do.”
