Greg Folley promises tax cuts and a smaller government approach

Marco Island City Council member seeks representation in Florida’s 81st House of Representatives district

My name is Greg Folley. I am a Marco Island City Councilman running for the 81st State House District, which represents Naples and Marco Island. I am married to Margo, a father of nine children, a stepfather of two children, and a grandfather of eleven grandchildren. Family is extremely important to me.

I love my country. As a child, I read a lot of history and learned clearly that America’s experiment with freedom was unique in human history. Then I heard this unique politician say loud and clear, “Government is not the solution. Government is the problem.” I was hooked and ran for Ronald Reagan when I was in high school. I later managed Reagan’s successful presidential campaign while at Notre Dame and eventually worked in the White House under Reagan. By age 25, I had worked in all three branches of the federal government in addition to my military service. I thought I could have a career in government or politics, but the kids I was talking about got in the way and I had a large family to support.

So after law school, I went into labor law and was hired by one of my clients, Caterpillar Inc. At Cat, I served as chief labor negotiator, chief human resources officer, chief innovation officer, and then as president of Caterpillar Remanufacturing and Caterpillar Logistics, two of the company’s largest and most profitable divisions. In my last role, I ran Caterpillar’s Global Parts business, a $10 billion business with approximately 10,000 employees in 18 states and 18 different countries, setting records for profitability, safety, quality, and inventory management. As chief human resources officer, I led the corporate resistance to Obamacare and quietly eliminated abortion coverage—an accomplishment I’m quite proud of, as there are countless people who wouldn’t be here today without that change.

I retired to Marco Island in 2018 and was appointed to the City Council soon after. My colleagues elected me Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Council. Unlike other cities, Marco Island keeps taxes low and does not raise taxes on citizens or businesses when real estate prices skyrocket, as they have in recent years. During my four-plus years on the Council, we have reduced property tax rates five times, for a net reduction of 31%. We keep government on a diet, in keeping with the principles of small government that Reagan preached. And we have a AAA credit rating, something very few cities in the state have. In short, Marco Island is a textbook example of conservative government in action.

And we did all of this while supporting the Blues 100%. We just reached an agreement with our police officers to give them nearly 30% raises over the next three years. Marco Island is the safest city in the state of Florida, according to FBI data, and we have our great police department to thank for that.

I will bring my tax-cutting, small-government approach to Tallahassee. I will fight illegal immigration with every tool at our disposal at the state level, lower property taxes by expanding the property tax exemption, and work on common-sense, business-oriented solutions to lower home insurance rates. If you want someone in Tallahassee who gets things done, vote for someone who has been getting things done his entire career. Vote for Greg Folley on August 20th!

Greg Folley, a member of the Marco Island City Council, is a Republican candidate for the 81st congressional district of the Florida House of Representatives.
