Green Sauce Burrito, other discontinued items back on Taco Bell menu

Craving the Green Sauce Burrito?

Or the iconic tostada?

They’re back with other discontinued items on Taco Bell’s limited-time Decades menu. They represent different years in the California-based fast food restaurant’s 60-year history, USA Today previously reported.

On Halloween you can buy the Tostada from the 1960s, the Burrito from the 1970s, the Meximelt from the 1980s and the Gordita Supreme from the 1990s.

Not that Taco Bell wants to be scary. The restaurant values ​​nostalgia, right down to the 2000 dish it’s bringing back on November 21: the Caramel Apple Empanada. The sweet treat surrounds apple chunks and a creamy caramel filling with a golden brown, crispy exterior.

You can also feel some nostalgia at Meximelt, which mixes pico de gallo, seasoned beef and a three-cheese blend in a tortilla.

The Gordita Supreme covers a flatbread with seasoned beef and other ingredients.

And the Green Sauce Burrito is packed with refried beans, shredded onions and the Green Sauce made with green chili, peppers, tomatillos, jalapeño and spices.

Taco Bell started in the Golden State

According to https://www.tacobell.com/history, Taco Bell founder Glen Bell created his version of the Crunchy Taco in 1951. Three years later, he founded Bell’s Drive-In and Taco Tia in the San Bernardino area.

Other significant events in Taco Bell’s history included:

  • In 1962, Bell opened his first Taco Bell restaurant in Downey, Los Angeles. Two years later, retired Los Angeles police officer Kermit Becky became Taco Bell’s first franchisee when he opened a location in another L.A. suburb, Torrance.

  • In 1993’s “Demolition Man,” the characters played by Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock talked about Taco Bell while driving before stopping at the futuristic restaurant.   • The restaurant introduced its Cheese-Stuffed Quesalupa in 2016 and Nacho Fries in 2018.
  • And in 2018, the chain took a trip back in time and unveiled Taco Bell 2032 at San Diego Comic-Con, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the film “Demolition Man,” set in 2032 and featuring Taco Bell.
