Graham Mertz appears to have a leg injury after throwing a TD pass against Tennessee

Graham Mertz appeared to be injured after throwing a touchdown pass midway through the third quarter against Tennessee on Saturday.

The score gave Florida a 10-0 lead over Tennessee with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter. However, there were concerns about Mertz’s health immediately after the play.

Here’s a video of the moment Mertz went down:

It certainly appeared to be a non-contact injury that could be serious. Mertz left the game to be examined by medical personnel and missed Florida’s next series. It is questionable whether he will return to the game.

In Mertz’s place, highly touted rookie DJ Lagway threw an interception on his first series since Mertz’s injury. Lagway has shown his potential this season, but has had problems losing the ball. This was Lagway’s fourth INT of the season on just 56 pass attempts.

If Mertz can’t continue, Florida needs Lagway to lead the Gators to a big win on the road. After the interception, Tennessee scored a game-winning 35-yard field goal at the end of the third quarter to make it 10:10.
