Governor Justice announces grants for STOP Violence Against Women



CHARLESTON, WV — Governor Jim Justice announced today announced that it has awarded $1,124,446.00 in grants to 21 projects across West Virginia through the STOP Violence Against Women program.

The purpose of these funds is to establish or strengthen teams whose core members include victim support workers, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to improve the criminal justice system’s response to violence against women.

The grants will provide personnel, equipment, training, technical support and information systems to establish or expand these teams. In addition, statewide projects will be funded to provide training and educational opportunities for all victim assistance, law enforcement, prosecutorial and court personnel throughout the state.

These funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women and administered by the Division of Justice and Community Services, West Virginia Division of Administrative Services.

The funds were allocated as follows:

West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Inc. – $46,645.00
These funds will provide outreach, training and technical assistance opportunities to STOP teams, stakeholders, employers, faith communities and other professional groups.

West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services – $171,074.00
These funds will help improve services for victims of sexual assault and stalking through enhanced training, collaboration, resource development and technical assistance.

West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals – $56,694.00
These funds will enable the expansion of the Victim Outreach Remote Technology Project to improve court response to violent crimes against women through training and improved virtual access for victims/survivors to the state court system.

West Virginia Institute of Prosecutors – $74,280.00
These funds will be used to further develop and strengthen law enforcement strategies and best practices, as well as to improve criminal justice victim support in cases of violence against women.

Putnam County Commission – $27,332.00
These funds will enable investigations into domestic violence cases to be continued and follow-up services and training to be provided.

Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center – $66,564.00
These funds can be used to develop best practices for survivors and enable participation in meetings, collaborations, training and awareness-raising events.

Comprehensive Women’s Service Council, Inc. – $62,560.00
These funds will help build a more coordinated and informed community response to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking, and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

Comprehensive Women’s Service Council, Inc. – $32,709.00
These funds will help build a more coordinated and informed community response to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking, and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

Comprehensive Women’s Service Council, Inc. – $39,104.00
These funds will help build a more coordinated and informed community response to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking, and hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. – $106,065.00
These funds will provide comprehensive assistance to victims of violence, sexual assault and stalking in Cabell County by ensuring effective law enforcement, victim advocacy, legal assistance, crisis intervention, support services, training and evidence preservation.

Family Refuge Center – $31,634.00
These funds will be used to improve and intensify advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and teen relationship violence through collaboration in Greenbrier County.

Family Refuge Center – $30,692.00
These funds will be used to improve and intensify advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and teen relationship violence through collaboration in Monroe County.

Tug Valley Recovery Shelter Association, Inc. – $80,345.00
These funds are intended to finance services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and intimate partner violence.

HOPE, Inc. – $59,373.00
These funds will be used to continue a multidisciplinary approach to combating the problems of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and intimate partner violence.

HOPE, Inc. – $49,376.00
These funds will be used to continue a multidisciplinary approach to combating the problems of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, elder abuse and human trafficking.

Women’s Aid in Crisis, Inc. – $22,550.00
These funds will be used to provide services to end violence against women by working as an interdisciplinary team to provide one-time, ongoing, safe, trauma-informed, and victim-centered services specifically targeted to underserved women.

Family Crisis Intervention Center – $19,667.00
These funds will continue to support a full-time advocate to address the needs of victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking.

These funds will continue to support a full-time advocate to address the needs of victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking and human trafficking.

Ohio County Commission – $75,775.00
The funds are intended to enable a multi-agency approach to tackling the pervasive problems of domestic violence in general and violence against women in particular.

Logan County Commission – $24,436.00
These funds will fund a part-time assistant district attorney to prosecute domestic violence, sexual harassment, stalking and intimate partner violence cases, and will also pay overtime for officers who process domestic violence claims.
