Governor Jared Polis mocks Tren de Aragua’s takeover of residential buildings in Aurora, Colorado

Migrant gangs are turning apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, into hellholes, and the Democratic governor is turning a blind eye.

This is an unfortunate consequence of the situation in a suburb of the sanctuary city of Denver: Venezuelan migrants have spread out of the Mile High City, some of whom are allegedly gang members who claim apartment blocks as their territory and terrorize residents.

A frightening video shows suspected members of the Tren de Aragua sneaking through the complex armed.

Another photo from the same complex shows two men breaking into an apartment with a tire iron.

Mayor Mike Coffman confirmed that at least two buildings had been occupied. He spoke of an “organized criminal activity” and added: “I believe we are the victims of a failed policy on the southern border.”

City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky warned: “I’m worried about everything I know about this gang. And I’m worried about everything I don’t know.”

But despite the mountains of evidence, Governor Jared Polis (D-R) categorically denies that this is happening.

On Wednesday, his office called the invasion “a figment of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination” and sneered that Polis “really hopes the responsible members of the City Council will stop trashing their own city when they are supposed to be keeping it safe.”

This is gaslighting at its worst.

Was it Jurinsky’s “imagination” when local leader Jhonardy Jose Pacheco-Chirino and some of his thugs allegedly beat up a man in one of these complexes? Or when he was involved in a shooting that left two men injured in the same complex?

Was it her imagination that led one apartment resident to tell Fox31 Denver, “It’s been a nightmare and I can’t wait to get out of here”?

Jurinsky has long been raising the alarm about the impact of the refugee crisis on her city.

She blamed the Harris-Biden administration for the “suffering” of Aurora residents and accused Denver authorities of encouraging migrants to flock to the Mile High City region by offering free housing and other tax-funded benefits.

Polis is a relatively moderate Democrat: He has advocated for eliminating Colorado’s income tax and making the state more business-friendly. In February, he traveled to the White House to urge Harris-Biden to address border security and demand more funding for cities overwhelmed by migrants.

But he has also helped prevent migrants from flooding the state: In 2019, he signed a protection bill that prohibits parole officers from “sharing a person’s personal information with federal immigration authorities,” and in June he signed measures making it easier for migrants to get driver’s licenses and government assistance.

The gang’s power struggle in Aurora is inconvenient for Polis, which is why he takes the approach of “not trusting his lying eyes.”

Late Friday, it appeared he had pushed Mayor Coffman to cover up, or at least fight, the “taken control” story – even though the city had filed for an injunction to “clear out the residences where Venezuelan gangs were active.”

Later that weekend, Polis tweeted that “occupying buildings has no place in Colorado,” adding that he had been “in contact” with Aurora authorities over the past month and had “offered any government assistance possible” to “support any Aurora Police Department operation.”

That means: Don’t blame me!

The national refugee crisis has become so undeniable that even Kamala Harris no longer pretends that everything is OK.

Polis can continue to try to spread the lie that Aurora officials are “envisioning” a gang takeover, but the city’s residents, like Americans in Democratic-run cities across the country, are facing the ugly truth.
