On the final day of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, only two remain in the race for the most gold medals by country: the United States and China.

The two countries finished neck and neck on Saturday, with China building a big lead early in the day thanks to a dominant performance in diving, before the USA narrowed the gap with multiple gold medals in the team and relay races at the end. The Americans won both the men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relays and also took gold in men’s basketball and women’s soccer.
