Sending Giancarlo Stanton home to score a run here probably wasn’t the best idea for the New York Yankees.

On Monday, the Yankees hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the 2024 World Series, trying to cut the series to a 2-1 deficit after two losses in California. However, the Yankees trailed 3-0 early after a home run by Freddie Freeman in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Mookie Betts in the third inning gave the Dodgers the lead.

The Yankees put the guys on base but continued to leave them out in the middle inning. In the fourth inning, with Stanton on second and two outs, Anthony Volpe hit a ball to left field. It wasn’t a deep ball, but the Yankees sent Stanton home anyway, hoping to get on the field for the first time.

Instead, however, Stanton was ejected due to a great play by Teoscar Hernández, helped by the fact that the Yankees were the designated hitter so slowly return home.

Stanton definitely shouldn’t have run there and the Yankees’ third base coach definitely should have stopped him. While Stanton is an absolute monster in the batter’s box, he isn’t exactly known for his speed. At all.

However, baseball fans on Twitter couldn’t help but create Stanton memes at the expense of his slow run around the bases during Game 3.
