SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 13, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, Allbirds introduced its newest silhouette: the Tree Glider, a shoe that goes anywhere, with anything and is a perfect fit for an active lifestyle.

Inspired by the feeling of lightness, the Tree Glider exudes effortless ease with its soft lines and raised curves, subtle knit details and lightweight construction. The striking design combines aesthetics and sportiness to seamlessly transition between environments. The outsole traction pattern is engineered for dynamic movement and designed to accompany you through the day – whether you’re hitting your step count or heading to a new place for lunch with friends.

A 2023 Allbirds consumer survey found that their customers want to be active four to five days a week, with 89% citing walking as a regular part of their active routine. This underscored the need for a true on-the-go active sneaker that’s suitable for many environments and use cases – and is why Allbirds brought on Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, wellness expert and founder of Melissa Wood Health, to bring this elevated, active style to life.

“The Allbirds Tree Glider is hands down one of the most comfortable sneakers you’ll ever wear. It feels like you’re walking on clouds,” said Melissa Wood-Tepperberg. “I’m a big believer in literally moving anywhere, anytime, and the Glider is great when you need to squeeze in those standing sessions.”

“In an industry saturated with maximalist designs, we instead take a reductive approach where we remove the superfluous and focus on enduring style elements,” said Jamie McLellan, product designer at Allbirds. “The Tree Glider is a reflection of this refined way of creating. Every detail was designed with a single intention: to create a closet staple that fits perfectly with an active lifestyle and moves effortlessly with you, no matter what the day calls for.”

The Tree Glider is constructed with a one-piece knit upper that provides a sock-like feel from the first step. The upper is made from Allbirds’ signature Tree material – a combination of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers and recycled polyester – to maximize airflow.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers add a natural softness to fabrics and provide effective moisture management to keep feet cool and dry when activity heats up. The fibers are carefully sourced from controlled or certified wood sources – including spruce, pine, birch, beech and eucalyptus – and meet FSC standards.® or PEFC standards, which means that the wood taken from nature is specifically adapted to the growth rates of the forests. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are produced with at least 50% less carbon emissions and water consumption than conventional Lyocell fibers.¹

Its SuperLight midsole, Allbirds’ lightest and lowest-carbon foam, offers a soft underfoot feel for all-day comfort. SuperLight foam is about 70% bio-based, compared to common industrial foams that are often made entirely from petroleum-based plastics.

The shoe weighs about 7.6 ounces (W8) and has a carbon footprint of just 4.19 kg CO2e – less than a third of the carbon footprint of a standard sneaker, which we calculate is about 14 kg CO2e.

The Tree Glider ($135) is available in whole and half sizes for men and women. The new style is available in four colorways, online at www.allbirds.com and in stores beginning August 13, 2024.
