George Clooney and Adam Sandler team up for new Netflix film

George Clooney and Adam Sandler will star in a new film for Netflix.

According to Deadline, the two actors will star in the currently untitled project for the streaming service. It will be the first time the two have worked together. Noah Baumbach of Marriage Story will direct and co-write the screenplay with Emily Mortimer.

Further details about the project and cast are currently being kept under wraps, but it is reported that the film is a “funny and emotional” coming-of-age story for adults.

Amy Pascal (Little Women, Marvel’s Spider-Man films) and David Heyman (Barbie, Harry Potter films) will produce the film.

The project follows a period in which “Uncut Gems” star Sandler was in the business for a few months, producing and starring in the films “Murder Mystery 2” and “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah” for Netflix this year.

Most recently, he lent his voice to the animated film Leo, along with his daughters Sunny and Sadie Sandler, who also appeared in You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah.

Clooney’s most recent work includes directing “The Boys in the Boat,” which tells the story of the University of Washington rowing team that competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The film is scheduled for release on Christmas Day in the U.S. and January 12 in the U.K.

He will next be seen in the upcoming film Wolfs alongside Brad Pitt and euphoriaby Austin Abrams for Apple.

In the meantime, Baumbach most recently worked as a co-writer with his partner Greta Gerwig on “Barbie” – the highest-grossing film of 2023.

Despite the film’s immense success, Baumbach recently admitted that he originally thought the film was a “terrible” idea. He told Variety: “I thought it was a terrible idea, and Greta signed me to do it.”
