Garth Brooks filed a pre-emptive lawsuit against sexual assault accuser

Garth Brooks filed a lawsuit against his accuser in U.S. District Court in the weeks before his sexual harassment allegations came to light, according to documents obtained by Us weekly.

Brooks, 62, identified only as “John Doe,” claims that his accuser, identified as “Jane Roe,” attempted to blackmail and defame him with “false accusations” that tarnish his reputation. would cause “irreparable damage”.

The documents show that Brooks claims Roe, now known to be his former hairdresser and makeup artist, asked Brooks for money when she was experiencing financial difficulties. Brooks says he initially relented, but her demands increased until she was demanding a salary and medical benefits. When Brooks refused, she responded “with false and outrageous allegations of sexual misconduct,” according to the filing.

In addition to the sexual misconduct allegations, which we now know include a rape allegation, alleged self-exposure, and sending sexually explicit text messages, Brooks claims Roe also accused him of plotting to hire someone to murder her .

Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery and the lawsuit contains some shocking allegations. Brooks’ complaint references several Roe demand letters allegedly sent in July and August demanding “millions of dollars.” He is asking that the court award him “a declaratory judgment that the defendant’s sexual misconduct allegations against him are untrue,” compensatory and punitive damages, and more. Brooks has also called for a jury trial.

In a separate complaint received from Us weekly and filed Oct. 1, Roe responded by calling Brooks’ allegations a “blatant attempt to manipulate the justice system.”

“With a draft of Ms. Roe’s California sexual assault complaint in hand, Mr. Doe ran to this courthouse in an apparent attempt to further control and harass his sexual assault victim,” the complaint states. “Mr. Doe began this reckless action after learning that Ms. Roe intended to hold him accountable for his conduct and sexual violence.”

The lawsuit further argues that Brooks “abused the Declaratory Judgment Act in a desperate attempt to prevent the truth from coming to light.”

Since Roe’s allegations came to light, Brooks has publicly denied any wrongdoing.

“For the past two months, I have been endlessly plagued with threats, lies and tragic stories about what my future would look like if I did not write a multi-million dollar check,” he said in a statement Thursday. Brooks concluded: “I want to play music tonight. I would like to continue our good deeds in the future. It breaks my heart that these wonderful things are now in question. I trust the system, I’m not afraid of the truth and I’m not the man they made me out to be.”
