Game updates, live scores in college football

South Carolina football saw victory just inches away but couldn’t secure it.

The Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) fell to No. 7 Alabama 27-25 on the road at Bryant-Denny Stadium after the most chaotic game of the season.

South Carolina scored on a one-leg catch from Nyck Harbor with 43 seconds left, but was unable to complete the two-point conversion to tie the game. Special Forces recovered the onside kick, but the Crimson Tide (6-1, 2-1) barely survived, fending off quarterback LaNorris Sellers’ Hail Mary with 13 seconds left.

Sellers fakes the pass and fails to tie the game with 43 seconds left.

With less than two minutes to play, Milroe found a wide-open Germine Bernard for the touchdown.

South Carolina kicker Alex Herrera failed to complete a personal record 50-yard kick and the Gamecocks trailed 19-20 with six minutes to play.

The two-point conversion is of no use and the lead remains at one point.

The Gamecocks took the lead for the first time with 6:20 left in the third and scored on their first drive of the second half. The eight-minute, 17-second drive was the longest drive (time) and second-longest (total games) in the Shane Beamer era

Alex Herrera’s 37-yard field goal after the Kilgore interception is good.

Kilgore returned it for 31 yards to end the half.

With all the momentum after the safety, LaNorris Sellers fumbles and Alabama recovers. Rule on the field was a fumble, but is being reviewed to see if it may have been a forward pass.

Kyle Kennard sacks Jalen Milroe in the end zone and he forces Milroe to throw to the ground, resulting in an intentional grounding and now the Gamecocks have the ball.

On fourth-and-9, LaNorris Sellers’ 36-yard pass finds a wide-open Mazeo Bennett in the end zone.

Justice Haynes scored on a 2-yard run with just under five minutes left in the first half.

Transfer from Georgia Tech and Charlotte, linebacker Knight sacks Jalen Milroe on third down.

The Gamecocks’ special operations team was called in to rough-handle the kicker on a punt, giving Alabama a new series of drives. Maurice Brown was called for a penalty.

Alabama scores on its first drive of the day. QB Jalen Milroe runs the ball from the 1-yard line with 11 players left to play in the first quarter.

South Carolina vs. Alabama Predictions

Alabama will be its biggest challenge yet in the secondary. Alabama freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams already has 544 yards and six touchdowns. The Crimson Tide are coming off a historic loss and it would be highly unexpected if Alabama lost two straight games to unranked SEC teams. The Gamecocks will bounce back from their poor performance in Week 6, but the Crimson Tide are too hungry, too skilled and win the game at home. Alabama 34, South Carolina 21
