GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kentucky football has a chance at history tonight. A win over Florida would be the fourth straight on-field victory in the series. (The first in that series, a 20-13 victory in 2021, has since been vacated due to NCAA violations.) The Wildcats have won four straight over the Gators only one other time: 1948–51, with Bear Bryant the British program led during all four triumphs.

But the Wildcats offense needs to score more touchdowns. In four SEC games, UK has crossed the goal line just four times. Perhaps the addition of the valuable transfer chip Trayanum will help. The former Ohio State tailback has yet to play this season after suffering a hand injury in preseason camp. He is listed as “likely” to play in his Kentucky debut tonight.

The Gators’ injury luck is trending in the opposite direction.

Starting quarterback Graham Mertz’s season and college career are over after he tore his ACL in last week’s loss at Tennessee. The Gators’ top running back, Montrell Johnson Jr., also suffered an injury in the Tennessee game. Due to this injury he was ruled out of competition this evening.

With so much at stake for both teams – each is 3-3, and added pressure on Florida coach Billy Napier as his job security is tenuous – expect a tight matchup tonight in Gainesville, Fla., between the Wildcats and Gators anticipate Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Kentucky receiver Barion Brown gets behind the Florida secondary and BRock Vandagriff puts him in the money for a 45-yard scoring strike. But Alex Raynor’s attempt at an extra point is of no use, leaving the game knotted at 6-1.

Trey Smack scores his second field goal of the contest, extending Florida’s lead to six points.

The Gators march down the field on the game’s first possession before the UK defense tightens up in the red zone.

Trey Smack hits a 29-yard field goal to give the hosts their first points of the night.

The final availability report for Saturday’s game was released 90 minutes before kick-off.

Five players are missing for Kentucky:

Florida has a much longer list of players who will not appear tonight – 14 in total.

This group consists of:

  • Date: Saturday, October 19th
  • Time: 7:45 p.m
  • Location: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium; Gainesville, Florida.
  • TV channels: SEC Network
  • Streaming: Fubo (free trial)
  • Radio: UK Sports Network (840 AM in Louisville; 630 AM and 98.1 FM in Lexington)

Kentucky vs. Florida will be broadcast nationally on SEC Network. Tom Hart and Jordan Rodgers will call the game from the booth at Kroger Field, while Marilyn Payne will report from the sidelines. Streaming options for the game include FUBO, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.

Kentucky 20, Florida 17: The Wildcats defense will be as ferocious as ever. That’s bad news for a Florida offense as a freshman quarterback (DJ Lagway) makes his first start against an SEC opponent. Who probably won’t have their first-team running back (Montrell Johnson Jr.) either. For Kentucky’s offense, Chip Trayanum’s season debut will provide a boost to a unit that desperately needs a spark. And ever-steady kicker Alex Raynor’s fourth-quarter field goal will help Great Britain earn its second road win in as many tries – by the same score as its stunning win in Oxford, Mississippi last month – this fall The score is 4:3.

BetMGM lines and odds as of today:

  • Spread: Kentucky is a 1½-point road favorite
  • Over/under: 42 ½
  • Money line: Kentucky, -125; Florida, +105

Florida has a staggering number of players expected to sit out, 14 in total.

This group includes:

Gators defenseman Bryce Thornton is questionable.

The high temperature will be 79 degrees with partly cloudy skies and a 6% chance of rain.
