Fundraising for Armstrong man who was seriously injured by fallen tree

Financial assistance is being provided for an Armstrong man who was “seriously injured” in an accident early last month.

Chris English suffered a traumatic brain injury on July 4 when a large fir tree was felled and fell about 70 feet, striking him in the head, according to family friend Sean O’Neill, who started a GoFundMe campaign for English.

English was flown by air ambulance to Kelowna to undergo emergency brain surgery. He was released from hospital on August 14 and is continuing his recovery at home.

“Due to unfortunate circumstances, there is no financial coverage for this incident,” O’Neill wrote on the GoFundMe page, adding that English’s wife was forced to make the difficult decision to close her business to help English and care for their children.

O’Neill says that while English would like to return to work, the specialists he can access are very limited before he undergoes further tests and therapy.

“It is absolutely amazing that he survived this accident, but the bills are piling up for his family,” O’Neill wrote.

O’Neill told The Morning Star that English has been in the tree industry for about 20 years and is known for his work in Vernon, Armstrong, Enderby and Shuswap.

The GoFundMe campaign, launched on Monday, has already raised just over $3,100 of its $20,000 goal as of Thursday afternoon.
