FSU football legend supports Mike Norvell after first game loss

The Florida State Seminoles suffered a heartbreaking 21-24 loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland last weekend, and it is still unclear among college football prognosticators whether the 2024 Seminole team will be able to repeat an ACC championship title and possibly qualify for the College Football Playoffs.

Florida State’s defense was considered a strong team before the Week 0 game, but seemed confused at times by this surprise and immediately raised questions about how this year’s team would perform.

One thing is beyond question: head coach Mike Norvell’s leadership qualities within the program. He led the ‘Noles to a 13-0 regular season and won the ACC before the ‘Noles were historically eliminated from the playoffs last year.

With so many headlines about the Seminoles making headlines in the media, former FSU legend Marvin Jones also spoke out and shared his opinion and support for Norvell.

“I support this guy 1000%! He showed me who he is with his actions!!,” Jones wrote in a recent tweet. “Damn good coach and a great person! Period, yes I took pictures of him at 2-3 games 😂😂😂”

If you’re standing near an FSU sideline, chances are you’ll see the All-American cheering on his former school and his son, Marvin Jones Jr., who currently plays for the ‘Noles. Jones Jr. transferred from Georgia in the offseason and is expected to make a significant impact for the Seminoles, helping fill the void left by first-round pick Jared Verse.

Jones Sr. had a distinguished career at Florida State University, where he won the Butkus Award and the Lombardi Trophy, was named College Football Player of the Year by Sporting News, and has his name engraved on a brick outside the Moore Athletic Center as a three-time All-American.

Marvin “Shade Tree” Jones was a staunch supporter of the university long before his son’s induction in 2024. He was inducted into the Seminole Hall of Fame in 2000 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

Look for Jones Sr. and Jones Jr. on Monday when the Seminoles host the Boston College Eagles for FSU’s first home game at 7:30 p.m. EST.
