From the Chamber: Empowering Women in the Yampa Valley – a Chamber Commitment

Our mission at the Steamboat Springs Chamber has always been to foster a thriving community by supporting local businesses and leaders. Fostering a thriving community means more than just economic growth; it means nurturing the potential of every individual, including the women who are the backbone of our businesses, families and communities.

Empowering women is not just a goal for us, it is a necessity. Routt County has a long tradition of strong female leadership, from Steamboat Springs’ first majority-female city council in 1988 to the countless women who continue to lead our businesses, ranches and community organizations.

This legacy is not just a matter of historical pride; it is a proven strategy for thriving communities. Studies such as McKinsey and Company’s Women in the Workplace 2023 show that companies with women in at least 30% of leadership roles are significantly more likely to outperform their competitors, both financially and in driving innovation. These companies don’t just get better results – they are more adaptable, more open to change and more committed to sustainable practices, according to a 2023 IBM Newsroom study. When we support and empower women, we are not just continuing a tradition – we are investing in a stronger, more resilient future for the Yampa Valley.

This commitment inspired us to introduce Women on a mission during Women’s History Month this year. This initiative was created to honor the legacy of strong women in Routt County while paving the way for future generations. By celebrating the incredible women making a difference in the Yampa Valley, we are building a community where every woman feels empowered to lead, succeed, and create lasting change. With this effort, we are not only recognizing success; we are also inspiring others to follow their own path of leadership and community impact.

Our commitment to empowering women is also reflected in our Thrive Lunch Series. These meetings provide more than just a networking opportunity, they are also an opportunity for women to grow professionally and personally in a supportive environment. The Thrive lunch series addresses unique challenges in the workplace and beyond, offering practical advice and strategies from experienced leaders. These events have become a cornerstone of our efforts to support women in the Yampa Valley and provide ongoing opportunities for growth and connections.

But our biggest and most anticipated event is just around the corner. Thrive Together Summit for Women in Leadership is happening on September 12th and I couldn’t be more excited. This summit is more than just an event; it’s a catalyst for change. It’s a place where women come together to share their stories, learn from each other, and build connections that help them succeed in all aspects of their lives. Most importantly, the summit aims to encourage women to confidently take their place at the decision-making tables where their voices can shape the future.

This year’s summit promises to be our best yet, with an incredible lineup of speakers who are leaders in their fields and ready to share their insights and inspire. Whether you’re a seasoned professional, an aspiring leader, or someone looking to find their path, Thrive Summit is the place to be. I encourage everyone to registerCheck out this year’s speakers, and join us for a day of inspiration, empowerment and community.

At the Steamboat Springs Chamber, we don’t just talk about women’s empowerment, we live and breathe it every day. Together, we are continuing the legacy of strong women in Routt County and building a stronger, more inclusive Yampa Valley – a valley where every woman has the opportunity to lead, succeed and thrive.
